Artist Feature: Karin Shelton
Karin is an artist in Santa Barbara, California. Found most often in her studio, experimenting with line and color, music playing. She generally has both Abstract & Figurative paintings going at once, creating the Abstracts in layers, leaving windows into the versions that preceded the final, and the Figurative inspired by an attempt to capture a moment that's caught her imagination -- the play of light on a mountain peak, a crazy color combination in the garden, the sky as storms gather or blow out.
Growing up in the Santa Barbara foothills, Karin started selling batik paintings at 15, which helped finance a gap year trip to Europe, Illustration study at California State University, Long Beach, and a BFA in Painting & Drawing at the University of Arizona in Tucson. She worked in feature films in LA for many years, designing/producing furniture on the side with her Architect husband, Jeff Shelton, before returning home to SB to raise their two daughters. Karin exhibits in venues throughout Santa Barbara county and her paintings are in personal collections in several countries. Seven paintings can be seen on the exterior of Jeff Shelton's Vera Cruz building in downtown Santa Barbara, and a watercolor is featured on Santa Barbara Winery's Pinot Noir label.
